Brewing The Classic English-Style Tea
A proper English-style cuppaâ€™ normally incorporates a splash of milk. Black teas with milk are an absolute treat! These teas do best with a thicker type of nondairy milk. Again, soymilk is the clear winner at frothing and getting a nice, thick foam. However, any style of dairy free milk will do the trick. A green tea latte can be made quite easily by adding matcha powder into the milk as it froths. This will break up the powder and intersperse it into the milk as it heats. A caffeine-free and delicious treat is the new take on golden milk! Make a concentrated steep of Turmeric Ginger tea and add to frothed milk. Yum!
Animal Products To Watch Out For
Although tea leaves â€” and most fruits, roots, and herbs used for flavor â€” are plant-based, there are occasional ingredients that are not. When purchasing teas, the decadent flavors are the ones most likely to contain dairy. Chocolate and white chocolate teas can contain milk fat in the chips. Butterscotch flavors and caramel could also contain some dairy products to add to the creaminess of the brew. This is not always the case! Teas that contain colored candied pieces can also contain carmine color, which is made from the cochineal beetle. Candied violets and other red or purple tones can sometimes contain this coloring. Check the ingredients listed for the candied pieces to be certain! The other one to look out for is honey. Some fruits can be coated with honey to add some sweetness. This is not an exhaustive list. When purchasing teas, always check the ingredients if youâ€™re not certain. By purchasing teas that donâ€™t contain artificial dyes and flavors, and choosing organic varieties, you can avoid many of these additives.
