Is Tea Vegan Friendly? Yes! Straight loose leaf tea is a completely plant-based product, and most herbal and flavored teas are naturally vegan friendly as well. Veganism is an abstention from consuming meat, animal products, and animal by-products. We at Capital Teas respect specific dietary needs and moral lifestyle decisions.
Almost all Capital Teas options are completely vegan. We hold our teas to a high standard, and source organic and natural ingredients for all of our teas and blends. None of our teas contain any colors, dyes, or artificial flavors. However, some flavored teas do contain flavors derived from animal products, like honey, milk, dairy derivatives, and flavors. At Capital Teas, we carry three flavored blends that contain ingredients that aren't suitable for a vegan diet.
Teas that are not vegan-friendly in our catalog:
Organic Coconut Kiss (contains banana chips that are coated with organic honey)
Organic Chocolate Pu-erh (contains milk in the chocolate chips)
The rest of our selection is suitable for a vegan diet!
When browsing for teas online, some ingredients that need to be avoided are obvious, like dairy and eggs. However, many products also contain derivatives, coloring, and ingredients that are extracted from animal products. When purchasing teas, some of these more elusive ingredients can be difficult to identify.
Here is a non-exhaustive list of ingredients to avoid when shopping for tea:
Carminic Acid, Carmine, Cochineal Acid
Colors & Dyes
